Summit High, the No. 1 team in Class 5A, has earned an automatic bid to the first round of the 5A volleyball state playoffs, while Bend High and Ridgeview will play Tuesday in the play-in round.
The Storm finished in a tie with Bend for first in the Intermountain Conference with a 7-1 league record. But with a higher state ranking than the No. 3 Lava Bears, Summit received the first-round home match.
Bend, the defending state champion, will host a 5 p.m. match Tuesday against St. Helens, which was fifth in the Northwest Oregon Conference with a 6-8 conference record. Seventh-ranked Ridgeview (4-4) was third in the IMC and will travel to Milwaukie for a 6 p.m. match against La Salle, which finished third in the NWOC with an 11-3 record.
The first round of the state playoffs is scheduled for next Saturday, and the 5A state tournament, held at Liberty High in Hillsboro, is set for Nov. 3-4.
